Me at the Easel
|
I always start each day with an early morning walk with my
dog Zoot. The animals in my life take a high priority and
inspired my first paintings. Born in the hills township of
Mount Pleasant, I grew up enjoying the bush. I then worked
as a Veterinary Nurse before starting my artistic career. In
1979 I commenced studying oil painting, landscapes and
portraits. 1983 saw me study watercolour with the Ruth Tuck
School and pen and wash with Helen Peter. From this followed
Five years working in oils under instruction from Lyn Todd
and a course in water colours with Suzanne Georgiou in 1989.
An invitation to join "Off the Couch" Art Studio in 1998
began a new love affair with pastels under the guidance of
John Lean. I have been working in pastel almost exclusively
ever since, I love the immediacy and vibrancy of them, and
know that they will never fade or change colour. 2005 I
began studying with Kellie Fergusson at Studio 11 Drawing
School. I love to paint landscapes, seascapes and animals
with pastels, but still enjoy dabbling with oils, acrylics
and water colour. Recently I began using acrylics to paint
animal portraits as they dry much faster than oils. My
favorite animals to paint are cats, I have had a great deal
of success painting and exhibiting my cat paintings. After
relocating to Goolwa in 2007 I joined Graham Pankhurst at
the Hindmarsh Island Drawing Group to continue honing my
drawing skills.
